The digital revolution has swept educational institutions in the past decade, but all of the technology related paradigms that have been set forward existed complimentary to the learning and not the direct medium. As of 2011, NIS transformed its existing classroom into Smart Classrooms by providing Smart Boards to serve as an interactive learning tool; curtailing the learning experience from traditional teaching and learning to a soft introduction to the digital age. In today’s environment, students are constantly being bombarded with an amplitude of stimuli, yet in the wake of all these changes, many educational institutions are still abiding by their traditional means of teaching and learning. We at NIS have recognized the deficiencies of this gap and have provided our students with the resources to close the gap.
As of 2012, the move towards student centered learning, based on technology started with our introduction of online curriculum mapping and student information system. This allowed all of our educators to build, design, and prepare their curricula against standards of learning that incorporate technology.
The success achieved in the curriculum mapping process paved the way to further growth, but this time, it was a whole school leap into our NIS built, and designed learning management software. The student information system was tailor designed for the NIS community; the unique program centralizes all student and personnel data such as personal data, classes, grades, assignments, and attendance. SIS also produces quarterly academic reports and automatically generates student progress reports when required. This service is available to teachers, administrators, parents and students of the NIS community.
The term LMS is used in the world of education by many institutions. What most educational institutions are actually using is LCMS, which is complimentary to the learning. We, at NIS, are using LMS as a concept of education that is paralleled by select universities in the United States.
LMS combines e-learning, interaction, reporting, and assessment guidance all in one. Our students experience flipped classrooms and then come to school to practice, assess their own learning, and experience the concepts learned. We are able to provide every resource to our students from online textbooks, supplementary books, videos, power point presentations, electronic lessons, quizzing and so much more.
Through LMS, students are in a learning environment around the clock, all year round, from all over the world. In a world where information is data driven, we are not just offering email services, or a website where assignments are posted, we are offering a transparent, easy to access way of life. We are not just preparing our students to pursue higher education, we are also preparing them for the new digital age we live in.
